Vihiga County Government partners with Digireg Kenya for the preparation of the County Spatial Plan 2025-2034 to promote sustainable development within the County
The County Government of Vihiga has set forth the preparation of County Spatial Plan (CSP) to guide sustainable social, economic, and environmental development over the next decade. In line with the County Government Act (2012) and the Physical and Land Use Planning Act (2019), the CSP adheres to constitutional land-use principles to promote balanced growth throughout Vihiga, which spans approximately 531.3 km². Supported by Digireg Kenya’s expertise, this initiative employs a comprehensive GIS-based framework to establish a digital foundation for the county’s development vision.
CSP aims to steer Vihiga County’s spatial development by implementing a GIS-based system to manage spatial data that will influence settlement patterns, optimize infrastructure, and enhance service delivery. It adapts national and regional policies to the local context, introducing innovative strategies for sustainable resource management.
The anticipated outcomes include balanced development, environmental conservation, economic growth, modernized agricultural practices, improved quality of life, optimized land use, and the advancement of sectors like industry and tourism.
